QUESTIONS and ANSWERS

Thursday, September 10, 2009

For the next couple of weeks I will be busy unpacking, sorting, and all the other things that go into getting ready to start tree season. I will do the first tree in less than a month. So I thought I would open the blog up for another round of QUESTIONS and ANSWERS. I will plan to answer them on Sunday while I am watching some football. If you know me from my main blog, you know I am a football junkie, even going to play fantasy football this year! Leave your questions in the comment section and I will do my VERY best to answer them in a way that you can understand. The hardest part of that is that I tend to talk in tree lingo that only me and the gals that help me understand. We talk tree language. I promise to try and answer all the questions. I have received so many questions about the Jesus Tree through the blog and through email. I will be so excited to see what some of you put together. IN the next post I will give you some hints on things you can use for ornaments.
For those of you have won prizes, it will be a week or so before I get them shipped. I still have new ornaments coming in everyday and I want you to get some of the best. So do not think I have forgotten you.
I would also love for you to leave names of any theme trees that you do or have seen. For example,in different homes I do several theme trees...one of all Santa's, one with all Snowmen. I also do an ELF tree and several Vintage Victorian trees. Another tree is done in all picture frame ornaments of all sizes and shapes filled with snapshots of the kids and grandkids at every age...a real MEMORY TREE.
Hot weather has returned to my area. I need a good cool spell to usher fall in..This will also be the weekend I get the Christmas music out...In a post soon I will share my favorite holiday CD's. I have a collection of over???,well lets just say I have MANY, MANY, MANY Christmas CD"S! Its a weakness!
Have a wonderful weekend. Please do not forget to pray for Melanie's son Andrew. As I talk and share about frivolous stuff about trees and decorating, I am so aware of many people that are going through very hard and scary times. So as you read this post, whisper a prayer for Andrew, and stop by and encourage the family.

I have ornaments I have had since childhood (literally since my first Christmas). I am also a Mom to 4 kids whose curious little hands sometimes forget the rules & want to "touch" our tree! I was wondering how you secure ornaments to your trees if they are fragile/breakable & you want to ensure they do not slip off the branches? By the way, we do pre-lit artificial trees. Last year I tried taking the ornament hook & wrapping it around the branch to secure it but it was a pain in the rear end to undo all those twisted hooks when I was ready to take it down. Is that the best way to hang breakable ornaments on a tree or do you have some different tips/tricks? Thanks.....

Hi Teresa! I just love reading your posts, nothing makes me smile bigger than a little Christmas spirit, even on a hot, humid September day! We have so much in common, I LOVE football too! From Friday night high school, all day college football(the BEST! Go SEC!) right on through Sunday professional football, it is on tv nonstop in this house!!
I have done many theme trees throughout the years, having 8 trees in the house gives me lots of opportunities :). Most are designed to fit the decor of the room, but I have done one that I put in the master bedroom that has gotten lots of attention over the years. It is a "partridge in a pear tree' theme, with all golds, coppers, chocolates, and of course, pears and partridges. I have collected so many gorgeous ornaments and layered and layered. Love it!

I saw a "winterwonderland tree" one time it was all moose, snowmen, penguins, polar bears and seals. If you have pictures of a tree like this I would love to see it or any creative ideas. I want to do this theme all throughout my house so it will be something different. I have a ton of penguins and snowmen already but I have a 1.5 year old son so I want to include santa the reindeer and baby jesus in it too. Please help!!!! We are doing the jesus tree in our second upstairs tree this year I can't wait to see how it turns out.

Teresa,
I to share with you a theme tree that we do for the kids. It is a kid creations tree. Our kids have so many cute things and ornaments that they have made from school and Sunday school, so we have a fun tree specifically for their creations. It is adorable with colored lights, paper chains and a beautiful array of their creations.
Blessings,
Amy

Don't forget you were going to show us the gauze netting that covers lots of things:):)

Also, you told us how to put balls on the tree, and you said don't use any any hooks on anything, but did you tell us how to hang the ornaments with out hooks? You may have and I missed it!

Thanks!!!!

Gosh, you just keep coming up with great ideas. I LOVE the memory tree idea.

I have collected western themed ornaments for my oldest grandchild since his first Christmas. They go into a special box and I'll give them to him when he marries. He should have plenty to decorate his first tree. And there are some adorable ornaments in there!

I love Christmas music too and have lots of holiday CD's. Can't wait to hear what your favorite is.

I just can't wait to read your post each morning. You do me good!

My husband and I threw away our artificial tree last year so we will need to buy a new one this year. I would like a full tree but don't know how many tips make a tree appear full. Also, how do you feel about pre-lit trees? Do they stay lit year after year? Thanks so much!

I LOVE your blog. I can't wait to see everything you do this season :o)

I noticed you have beautiful ribbon bows on your trees. Do you have a standard length of ribbon you use to create them? I was in Costco today and saw that some of their ribbons are already sold out!! The one I was looking for wasn't there, how does that happen at the beginning of September!!LOL My tree is done in primitive country ornaments, (rusted tin stars, rusted bells, some ivory colored bells, etc.) do you have a suggestion for the type of ribbon I should use? I'm excited to see what you will share with us! Thanks for taking the time to do this when you are so busy, it's appreciated!

I put up five trees: angel tree on the stair landing, rustic/nature tree in the dining room, music tree in the loft, Victorian elegance tree in daughter's old bedroom, and the main tree has everything on it!

We usually did a color every year....

We laways put gold or silvere ribbons in and diff colored ribbons...but we had mainly red and gold, or silver and gold.

For the past 2 years hubby and I have done a red and gold or read and silver...this year he wants me to do a tree in all different colors like when he was young....even with colored lights....yuck....HELP!

LOL

Dunno if you still had my other question...but when you say use filler balls and put them in the middle of the tree....do you mean push them onto the limb.....like all the way through the ball?

Hope all is well and have a great weekend
Love, Jess

I so enjoy Christmas and putting up a Christmas tree. I have ornaments form my childhood and from years of collecting. I usually put up a few small trees. One is rooster folk art tree. Thanks for stopping by my place and the nice comment. It's raining "cats and dogs" here. Yea!~ Sarah

I also owned a gift basket shop for 4 years THE BASKET CASE. I decorated small table top themed trees, and one of my best sellers was a nursery/baby themed tree. Hobby Lobby sold miniature baby bottles, pacifiers, etc., I would add miniature pink, blue or yellow balls, the tree skirt was a baby wash cloth- they were adorable. I love this idea for a blog.

Wow! What a gorgeous tree! I need you to come to my house and decorate mine! I never seem to get it just the way I want. This year, for the first time, I will be celebrating Christmas with my son and two granddaughters, ages 10 and 12. I can hardly wait for their arrival! I want to do a special tree to celebrate them and the spirit of family. Suggestions?

I look forward to visiting your blog again!

I tend to mix up my tree every year. I have some mouse ornaments that I collected over the years. Sometimes its all mice. Other times I do other things. But one constant is the ornaments we bought yearly for our kids and to commemorate the things going on in our life that year...sometimes happy things and sometimes sad.

Love this... I'm so excited to hear more! : )

This is my first time visiting your blog, and I am also a huge fan of Christmas. You were talking about theme trees so I thought I would tell you about one I do. Every year I have a kitchen tree, but I only use things that I already have. I will hang measuring spoons and cups, aluminum foil bows, and anything else I can get on there.
